Smart Steps provides state approved Drug Offender classes certified by the State of Texas. This class is for individuals who have been charged with a misdemeanor or felony drug offense. It also satisfies the requirement for education because of a suspended driver's license and can be taken for pre-trial, attorney plea offers or failed U.A. required by probation or employers. The standardized program is 15 hours in length and is taught in 5 segments. Each segment must be at least 2 hours and no longer than 3 hours in length, according to state program rules. Therefore, classes are scheduled for 3 hours but usually conclude in 2 hours. It is designed to educate participants on drug abuse. Participants will develop a personal action plan so that they can avoid future drug use and the resulting consequences.

 DOEP Class Policies:
1. Students must register prior to class in order to attend.
2. Students must not have had any alcoholic beverage or be under the influence of any drug before attending class.
3. Students must attend all sessions in their proper order. The State does not allow make-ups.
4. Beverages are available for purchase or you may bring your own. Snacks are allowed during break. Smoking is not permitted inside the building.
5. Cell phones and all electronic devices must be turned off during class.
6. The fee for this course is $125.00 which is due at registration. If the student does not have the entire amount, a $50 down payment is required for entrance to the class. The entire fee must be paid by the last class day or the student will have to repeat the class and will lose their entire down payment.
7. On the first evening of class you must arrive by 5:45 PM to complete registration forms that are required by the state.
Important – Please Note:
Approved Texas Drug Offender Education Programs are responsible for providing a certificate of completion to each participant upon successful completion of the program. The participant is responsible for providing the convicting court clerk with a copy of the serially-numbered certificate. The convicting court clerk will complete the CR-44 form (Supplemental Court Reporting Form) and forward it to the Department of Public Safety, who will then reinstate the person's driver's license.
